Perhentian Islands

Looking for fluo colored water, white and soft beaches and just some time to relax? Perhentian Islands are definitely the place you are looking for. Enjoy a coconut at the beach and snorkel away!

What to do at Perhentian Islands?

When you think of the Perhentians you would definitely think about the perfect blue ocean and the white beaches. Go here to relax, read a book, be romantic with your partner, do some snorkeling or diving. This is also a perfect place for getting your Padi or do an introduction dive to see if you are in to diving. Besides this you can go for a nice walk to different secret/private beaches, take a taxi boat to the other island or to one of the few beaches which you can only reach by boat like turtle beach. If you are lucky some of the beaches are completely empty and you will have a private beach. You can enjoy every evening a fire show depending on the weeks the fire shows are at Coral Beach or at Long Beach. After the fire show you can enjoy a party night with locals and tourist, so never a dull moment on the island and lots of things to do and see.

Snorkeling

One of the most beautiful things to do at the Perhentian islands is to go snorkeling on all the different snorkeling spots around the two islands. I did two snorkeling trips, one to the Rawa islands which are less then 20 minutes with the boat and one to a few spots around Perhentian Besar which were turtle point, shark point and coral garden. Both of my snorkeling trips were amazing because of all the beautiful coral, the colorful fishes and the clear blue water. There are many more spots to do snorkeling around the islands and you can even just rent your goggles to just go from the beach into the water and enjoy the fishes which are every where. If you want to do a tour it really depends on which tour you are doing. The tour to the Rawa islands were 70 ringgit (€14,50) and the tour to shark point, turtle point and coral garden was 40 ringgit (€8,50). Just make sure before you book a tour that you get goggles and flippers. Because with flippers it is a lot easier to do snorkeling and also a lot more fun to dive down.

Lunch and dinner

There are different nice places for food. If you would like something fancy go to BuBu resort and enjoy a good pasta or an amazing steak. Good thing is you can pay with your card here so no excuses of not being able to pay. Another nice place is Daneila's where they have nice curry's and western food but be aware, their English isn't great so don't change anything about what you order because you will definitely get something else. Chill out is another nice cafe where western food, pasta and the curry's are really good. The prices are really good here as well so definitely worth your money for some good food. All these places are on Long Beach but of course there are some places on Coral beach as well. Sunset cafe and Amelia cafe are both good price and quality wise. Enjoy all the different options and let me know which one you liked the most.

Inara cafe

This is definitely my favorite breakfast place! They have 3 front and back pages full with breakfast options and it is always good! The price is also amazing because it is one of the cheapest places on the island. In case you want to have a brunch and want to eat something from the lunch or dinner menu they make it for you on the spot and they even love to chance some of the ingredients for you or add some more veggies which I love with my curry. This place is definitely the place to be for breakfast but also for lunch or dinner this spot is nice.

P.S. they also have a great laundry service for just 10 ringgit per kilo. Your stuff are super clean and smell so good!

Senja Hotel

Looking for a nice place to stay then check out Senja at coral bay/beach. Senja has rooms for 2, 4 and 6 people and during the Ramadan they even have a 50% discount on all their rooms. That meant for us the same price as our hostel which made it completely worth to move from a hostel to this hotel. You have your own bathroom with a separate toilet, a good working airconditioning and there is a water filter in the hotel (that is not a normal thing on the islands). From the hotel you walk directly on coral beach where you can enjoy the sun the whole day and watch the sunset. The prices during ramadan were 150 ringgit for a 4 person room. This is around €31 per night. This place is clean, comfortable and relaxing at the same time and perfect for your holiday.
