Koh Rong (Sanloem)
Cambodia has a few beautiful islands in the south. Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem are similar to each other but both worth visiting. For ultimate relaxing go to Koh Rong Sanloem and for a bit more excitement go to Koh Rong.
Nestival Koh Rong
Nestival is organized by the nest hostel on Koh Rong and will be celebrated every Saturday. It starts at 3 pm with a lot of different games. When you win the tournament you will win a lot of free beer so definitely worth to create a team and start winning. After all the games the area turns into a festival area with DJ's and a fireshow. The music is great same as the food and beers are only 1,25 USD so definitely not expensive for a festival. Wanna cool down, join everyone else for a swim in the ocean but above all enjoy the vibe, good music and amazing people. You have to pay for the ticket for Nestival which is 5 USD, but you do get one free drink with that as well.
Boat trip Koh Rong Sanloem
When you are on Koh Rong Sanloem you have to do the boat tour. It starts at 2 pm and you will start with a little boat ride to a place where you can do some snorkeling and jumping off the boat. After a while you will get back on the boat and you will go to a place where you can do some fishing but it is fishing like the locals. The fish you catch you will eat later that day during the bbq dinner on the boat. After the fishing you go to a cute little town and walk to a nice viewpoint where you can have a couple of drinks and enjoy the sunset. Back on the boat you will have a lovely and really nice dinner, just be aware the locals love spicy so it definitely will be spicy. Then the tour continues to a spot where you can swim with plankton and see them light up as soon as you move in the water. Swimming with plankton is an amazing experience and really beautiful to watch. The boat will turn into a party boat afterwards until you are back to Koh Rong Sanloem. You will be back around 8 pm and the price for the tour is 15 USD. You can book it through Onederz hostel because other places are a little bit more expensive.
Onederz hostel Koh Rong Sanloem
One of my favorite places to stay while I was traveling through South East Asia and the best thing ever is that it is a chain so in every big city you can find one. Don't even know where to start but the beds are really comfortable and clean and the rooms are a descent size and cleaned every single day. They have a wide range of food that is also very affordable and delicious and most of the staff speaks fluent English and is willing to help you with everything. You can buy your boat/bus ticket but you can also already book your stay for any of the other Onederz hostels. Booking a boat tour is possible from the reception desk and above all enjoy the easy access to the beach and the ocean . The price for one night in a dorm is 8 USD.
