Brisbane

Brisbane, a city that feels like a town, where you can find everything you need and want but where you also can see the city center within two hours. It's a vibrant city where you can find work or where you just stay for a few days before your next stop.

Tips on Brisbane

I stayed in Breeze Lodge Hostel which is a nice hostel that has everything you need in Kangaroo point. From there it is a 30 minute walk to the city center of you can walk for 15 minutes to the free taxi service and travel along with the water taxi.

The city center of Brisbane is vibrant and has tons of shops, restaurants, bars and cafe's. It is also a good area to arrange your bankaccount, get yourself a SIM card or spreading your CV at different companies in case you are searching for a job in Brisbane. In the city center there are two musea for free, the Museum of Brisbane which is located in the Brisbane city hall and you can find the history and culture of Brisbane in here. The other museum that is for free is the Gallery of Modern Arts and is really nice to visit if you have one or two hours to spent in the city. Another amazing thing to do is to visit the free community pool in Southbank which overlooks the city center. Southbank is also really lovely to visit in general because of the little park you can walk through and the nice places for food. And if you think you can't do more here by without spending money then here we go. Visit the botanical garden, they have two in Brisbane and I think they are both lovely to visit. Also go for a little walk in Whites Hill reserve. You have the chance to find wild koala's here or like me you might see a wallaby. You also will have a stunning view over the city. Overall there a lot of things to do for free in this city which makes it so much more fun to visit. But when I'm honest I think you need a maximum of three days here before moving on. The city is nice but when you have seen everything it can become a bit boring.

When you do want to spend some money you can go to The Met which is a really nice club with different rooms which have different types of music. You can enter for free if you download the app Growpro and enter yourself for the Friday night event, you have to get in before 23h but you will get a free drink with it.

Something you should know before traveling through Brisbane, it is not made for people that like to walk. There are some sidewalks but definitely not everywhere. The bus is always an option but you have to get yourself a Gocard which is for all the public transport busses in Queensland but not for the greyhound busses. It is a tap on tap off service and all the busses cost you not even 3 Australian dollar. If you have to change from one bus to another then that trip won't be charged which can end up to 3 different busses for 3 dollar.

If you want to keep it cheap get your meals at Coles, Aldi or any other supermarket. They have complete meals that you only have to heat in the microwave for 4 minutes and Bon Apetit! If you like to have dinner somewhere else go to Southbank or the city center for a lot of different types of cousines. Definitely recommend Southbank on this one because of the vibe here.

*when you are visiting Brisbane in the end of January make sure you have a look at the cockroach races in Kangaroo point. It is a lot of fun and there is good music to enjoy your afternoon with friends.
